Irritation is growing: what pisses off electric car drivers?

Categories

Just a year ago, a positive attitude was widespread among eco-car drivers. But a study conducted by the consulting company UScale this spring showed that the picture is not so rosy. It seems a large number of drivers are disappointed with their purchase. The survey concerned drivers from European countries.

About 1,200 respondents took part in the survey. According to the study, only 59% of them would recommend buying an electric car like theirs. 13% were very clear in advising against buying their chosen model. For comparison, in 2019, 77% of respondents praised the selected models and only 6% of the same number of respondents were dissatisfied with something.
What's wrong?

According to the results of the study, drivers are most dissatisfied with the functions that make up a battery-powered vehicle: recovery, eco mode, navigation, as well as communication with the application and everything connected with it. This is especially true for German manufacturers.

Tesla is a leader in digital services. UScale managing director Axel Sprenger notes that German manufacturers are winning in classic technical advances such as cabin sound insulation, for example. In this category, the Tesla barely compares to the Renault Zoe. However, when it comes to digital services, no one compares to Tesla.

Let's get back to the survey. Only 43% of the drivers surveyed are satisfied with the control and monitoring of the charging process. Only 14% of respondents rated App-Connect as a good application. In particular, more than a third (36%) of respondents experience problems connecting such software.
Charging problems come first

In total, four out of five drivers surveyed had charging problems. Most drivers charge their cars with electricity at home, but more and more motorists are using “public” charging. 23% of respondents noted that they “often” refuel on the highway while driving, 61% answered “sometimes.”

If charging failed, 48% of them switched to another charging station or contacted a hotline. Even this did not satisfy drivers very much; most electric car owners noted that the problem was caused by technical problems or faulty charging points.

What is the reason for this change in the mood of drivers? Axel Spranger notes that vehicles have not become worse, drivers' expectations have simply increased. Those who buy electric cars now believe that the problems of the first electric cars on the market have already been solved. But in reality everything is different. Manufacturers cannot meet consumer expectations that have so quickly increased.
